Kevin O'Connor Simply Wood Art is a variety of Scroll Saw created wood art.
The concepts are varied but not complex. The skill required with the scrollsaw takes time to master. But I consider my work -Simply Art. The categories are, as with most artists, my personal interests. I run, I am a Marine, I am Irish and I am a philosopher by education. Below is more detail on my background.
But the bottom line is I enjoy my work and hope you can enjoy it, too.
With my "Simply Wood Art" I have been designing and creating wood art related to athletics, Celtic Designs, Military Designs, Nature, etc for almost 12 years.
I have created Running race awards in the Richmond, Virginia area for dozens of events including the Toys for Tots Run, Carytown 10K, Battlefield 1/2 Marathon, Salisbury Fall 5K, RRRC Scholarship Races, CrossOver Challenge 15K and many more..
I have also created unique awards for the RRRC Runner of the Year Awards Program.
I have created unique military art and awards for the Marine Corps League, various Marine Corps Reserve detachments as well as Active USMC detachments in Virginia.
I also create non-running works of art including categories of Celtic Art and Nature Art. The Celtic Designs have been bought as gifts in Spain, Denmark and Great Britain as well as here in the US. I create and sell art, based on special requests, and I'm open to design suggestions and inquiries.
Prices are negotiable based on the complexity of the design, the wood used and the size of the work and generally range from $35 to $150. I have been a runner for over 50 years. Since my first race in 1960 - 1.25 mile cross country high school race, through my first road race in 1964 - the 25K Milk Run at the New York World's Fair - I have run everywhere and anywhere, races and events from 1 Mile to 24 hour runs. For the past 10 years I have relaxed into running "ultra" trail runs form 50K to 100K. It's not about racing or competing but about personal challenges and the participation with others - and even more frequently about the solitude of running for hours alone in a forest.
.. I was in the United States Marine Corps (1967 - 1969) serving 19 months in Vietnam and being discharged as a Sergeant. You will see an example of the USMC Eagle, Globe and Anchor (EGA). We Marines can never seem to get enough reminders of our Corps. The "EGA" I create can be in oak, walnut, pine, poplar or maple.
I have a BS degree in Marketing and an MA degree in Business and Medical Ethics.
(Back to running) I have also directed more than 70 running events. Most of them were events that I created to introduce people to trail running (BearCreek & SwingingBridge Races) and several of them as fund -raising events for non-profit organizations - Youngblood & Patriots)
